Now retired, Lucy Yang was the face of the Lucky Cantonese Restaurant in Beeston, which she owned with her husband.

They ran the business together from 2016-2022. Lucy was born in China and moved to the UK in 2012 but she and her husband have worked in the food industry for over 20 years.

Lucy and her husband had an aspiration to bring authentic Chinese dishes from different regions of China to Nottingham. Anyone who has visited the restaurant will know it is frequented by many of the local Chinese community, a resounding endorsement of the quality, and authenticity of the cooking.

The business is still family owned, and producing some of the finest food in Beeston.

I met Lucy and her daughter Cindy in a café in Beeston, to photograph her. I particularly liked painting the cardigan Lucy is wearing with its thick corduroy and furry collar.
