This is a Portrait of Anthony John Remon, born on the 24th April 1948. Tony is one of the few remaining people who has a connection to the Nottingham lace industry.

Tony moved to Beeston in 1968 and started working in lace in 1969. He was well known for his shop ‘Tony’s Nets’ in Beeston market.

I met Tony to photograph him at his daughter Sarah’s house. Tony is now living with dementia, a terrible illness which slowly robs families of their loved ones. I was able to see glimpses of the man Tony was, and was struck by his dignity and the love which his family have for him.

Tony has his hand resting on a sample of lace his family have kept from the days of Tony’s Nets.
