Treetops Hospice
Oil on Plywood
Donated to Treetops Hospice
As an artist, I like to focus on stories of humanity, connection, and community. When approached to create portraits for Treetops Hospice, I saw it as an opportunity to highlight the individuals who contribute to this essential end-of-life care service.
The project was unveiled during Hospice Care Week, which celebrates hospice care nationally, and coincided with Treetops’ 40th anniversary.
Building on my *People of Beeston* series, I focused on the theme of “People at Work” to showcase the range of roles at Treetops. These include nurses, counsellors, the catering team, and volunteers in the charity shop and gardens.
These were the largest group portraits I have undertaken, requiring seven months to complete. Using oil, acrylic, and charcoal on plywood, I aimed to convey not just physical likenesses but the energy and commitment of the individuals portrayed.
Seeing the finished pieces unveiled at Treetops was really gratifying. The portraits honor a team whose efforts profoundly impact the lives of others.
These works are intended to go beyond decoration, serving as a lasting tribute to the Treetops community. Their display at the hospice aims to remind future generations of the dedication and compassion behind its care.
