Richard became a Broxtowe Borough Councillor in 2015 and retained his seat in 2019 for the Stapleford North Ward on both Stapleford Town Council and Broxtowe Borough Council.

Richard has won plenty of awards over the years, for his work in the community.

For example, in 2014, he was awarded the Points of Light award by the Prime Minister, for his work in the community. And in 2020 he won The Community Star Award, organised by The Mansfield Building Society!

I met Richard in the Mayor’s parlour, a room located in the council building used by the Mayor to entertain visitors. The walls are covered with photographic portraits of past mayors.

Richard is wearing the white ribbon which represents a commitment to never take part in, condone, or stay silent about violence against women.
